Respiratory system

Anatomically, the respiratory system is subdivided into¹:

• Upper respiratory tract: sinuses, nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx.
• Lower respiratory tract comprising: trachea, bronchi and lungs (bronchioles, alveoli, interstitial tissue containing blood vessels)

Functionally, the respiratory system is subdivided into:

• airways and lungs (respiratory organs).
